Rutgers HPO/RWJ Volunteer Intensive Program (VIP)
The Rutgers Health Professions Office and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital have collaborated to create a unique volunteer opportunity for Rutgers, New Brunswick students. It offers students the opportunity for a limited one-semester volunteer commitment of 50 hours. The HPO/RWJ VIP program is offered three times a year to coincide with the academic calendar (fall, spring, summer). If accepted into the program, volunteers will commit to one four-hour shift in a selected department for a minimum of 50 hours of service in 15 weeks.
To be eligible for this program, students must have the following:
- A file in the Health Professions Office for at least a month
- Completed at least one year (two semesters) at Rutgers, New Brunswick
- Completed at least one basic science sequence (Biology 119:115 and 116, or Chemistry 160:161 and 162, for example) at RU New Brunswick, or two upper level science courses if they have AP credit for the basic sciences
- Must have a grade point average of 3.0, or higher
Interested students meeting the above qualifications should come in to meet with an advisor at Rutgers HPO to discuss in more detail and receive an application.
(The program has been filled for the Fall 2017 semester rotation. Applications for the Spring 2018 semester rotation should be available in November.)
If you do not meet the above qualifications, however would still like to volunteer at Robert Wood Johnson, you are encouraged to complete the respective adult volunteer profile form for their hospital campus of interest.
