HPO/RWJ VIP Program

Rutgers HPO/RWJ Volunteer Intensive Program (VIP)

The Rutgers Health Professions Office and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital have collaborated to create a unique volunteer opportunity for Rutgers, New Brunswick students. It offers current Rutgers-New Brunswick undergraduate students the opportunity for a limited one-semester volunteer commitment of 50 hours. The HPO/RWJ VIP program is offered three times a year to coincide with the academic calendar (fall, spring, summer). Volunteers will commit to one four-hour shift in a selected department for a minimum of 50 hours of service in 15 weeks.

To be eligible for this program, students must have the following:

  • A file in the Health Professions Office for at least a month, along with at least one recorded appointment with an HPO advisor (on HPOdrome)
  • Completed at least one semester at Rutgers, New Brunswick (with grades on your transcript)
  • Completed at least one semester of General Biology or General Chemistry with a grade of B or better. If students have AP credit for those courses they must have a least one graded science course on their Rutgers transcript with a B or better.
  • Must have an overall AND science GPA (on HPOdrome) of 3.0 or higher

Interested students meeting all the above qualifications should forward their name and RUID# to Tracey Hasse (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) at Rutgers HPO to be prescreened.  Qualified students will be contacted to come in and discuss in more detail and receive an application.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT:  With not knowing how this COVID-19 situation will play out, we do not know whether or not there will be a summer VIP rotation as the current spring rotation has been put on hold until future notice.  As soon as a decision is made, an announcement will be sent out on the HPO listserv or this webpage will be updated with any new information.
