In addition to taking prerequisite coursework, it is important to have clinical and community service experiences. For premedical students,  clinical experiences are those that put you in a medical setting, preferably where you have some participatory role in medical care.  Examples would be EMT, medical scribe, medical assistant, clinical care technician, to name a few.  You can look for jobs and opportunities via our web site,  Indeed.com, Rutgers Handshake, and through networking.  You should also open a file with our office, so you receive our frequent emails with information about opportunities and events of interest to prehealth students.

Volunteer/community service can be health-related, or in an area of particular interest to you.

Be sure to meet with an HPO advisor to get guidance on course selection and building a strong portfolio for application to professional school.
