Saint Peter's Shadowing Program

All HPO clinical programs have been suspended due to the pandemic.  As soon as a decision is made about the status of each of these programs, an announcement will be sent out on the HPO listserv or this webpage will be updated with any new information.

The Health Professions Office is proud to offer a Premedical Physician Shadowing Program at Saint Peter’s University Hospital in New Brunswick. This program is open to current Rutgers undergraduate students who have at least one year of residence as a student of Rutgers – New Brunswick/Piscataway. Candidates must have:

    • a minimum overall and HPOdrome science GPA of 3.6
    • satisfactorily completed both semesters of General Biology, General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry
    • a file with the Health Professions Office that contains at least two letters of recommendation
    • Endorsement by the staff of the Health Professions Office by having had at least one appointment with a HPO advisor

If, at the present time, you are missing one or two of the prior requirements for the Saint Peter’s shadowing program, do not submit an application until you have satisfied them.

It is a wonderful opportunity that will give selected participants a unique opportunity to observe the practice of medicine. Participants will be paired with a physician mentor/team and will be given an opportunity to observe the physician on rounds, in the office, watching certain procedures, attending departmental weekly Grand Rounds and participating in the medical student/resident conferences daily.

At the present time, we are not accepting applications for this program.  Please check back on this page for any updates.
