When should I schedule my appointment?
It is recommended that currently enrolled Rutgers students meet with an HPO advisor at least once a year to make sure they are on t he right track for their future goals. Students are welcome to meet with advisors more often and/or utilize walk-in hours, as needed if they have questions regarding classes, program, grades, etc.
Your appointment will be online via Zoom, or in person (we will have very limited in person advising for the fall 2021 semester) and may be with any HPO advisor.
You may also call 848-445-5667 weekdays 9am - noon, 1pm - 5pm EST or contact us through Live Chat, weekdays 1pm-5pm EST.
Advising is an opportunity to exchange information designed to help you reach your educational and career goals. Advising is a shared responsibility between an advisor and the student. Ultimately, it is your responsibility to make decisions about your life goals by creating a plan to reach those goals.
Advisors assist in this process by helping you understand your options, determine resources and, when necessary, identify alternatives. While you are urged to keep parents informed of plans and progress, the advising relationship is unique between the academic advisor and the student.
- Schedule your advising appointment early, arrive on time, and cancel 24 hours in advance if you cannot make it.
- Prepare for your appointment in advance by bringing a list of questions.
- Use Degree Navigator to review your major/minor requirements
- Take advantage of University resources by asking for guidance and advice about opportunities that will enhance your educational experiences.
Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate prospective or incoming students in individual advising sessions until the semester they begin at Rutgers.
